Our Dinghy Sail Instructor Assessment Week is an intensive course leading to the RYA Dinghy Instructor qualification, preparing you for work as a professional or club instructor.
The course combines on water training and assessment with sessions ashore covering dinghy land drills, teaching techniques and related theory topics.
You will learn how to train beginners and improvers in single and two-handed dinghies. You will develop an imaginative approach to teaching safe and efficient sailing, as well as the theory that underlies it.
Course content:
RYA teaching method for
• Launching and landing
• Starting, stopping and steering
• Sailing upwind and tacking
• The five essentials
• Sailing downwind and gybing
• Land drills ashore for tacking and gybing
Teaching and coaching techniques
• Delivering theory presentations, briefing and debriefing, running on water coaching
• RYA Youth Scheme & Sailability
• Towing & rescue techniques
To gain the instructor qualification you will be expected to demonstrate good communication skills, an understanding of the RYA training scheme, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.
The course is based at at Club Vass and Wildwind, twin high-performance centres at Vassiliki, Lefkas, Greece.
