The job description
a typical day
Our Lead Instructors are at the core of our centres, providing effective leadership and instruction to a variety of groups in fun and exciting sessions! These sessions provide a hands-on experience, organised and delivered by our instructors in a range of activities; from canoeing and kayaking to rock climbing and zip wire!
Lead Instructors will also take an active part in assisting the Senior Instructor in co-ordinating the work of the Activity Instructors and operations on site. Your main duties will include supervising the activity team, overseeing the day to day operation of the instructed activities, take on responsibility for equipment monitoring and maintenance and to act as a role model/mentor for junior staff. The ideal candidate will have at least one seasons experience of working in the outdoor sector with recognised National Governing Body qualifications in at least two of the activities offered at our sites.
Our instructors are passionate, both about the outdoor sector and working for Girlguiding. They represent the public face of Girlguiding, ensuring that all activities are conducted in a manner which promotes and enhances the organisation’s safeguarding policies, images and reputation, ultimately ensuring that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience with us so that they want to visit again.
While Girlguiding’s young membership is only open to girls and young women, we work as One Team with over 100,000 adult volunteers. We value the differences that a diverse workforce brings and are committed to inclusivity across the organisation. Girlguiding is proud to be part of the Stonewall Diversity Champions programme, a member of the Business Disability Forum, and a member of Time to Change. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
