Should there be a course that a student would like to include in their training, that is not on the following list, we will endeavor to facilitate it into the students learning program. The cost of these electives is determined once the instructors sign up for a course as the number of candidates will affect the cost of running the course. Courses will be run in conjunction with service providers’ availability. It is aimed to run these training components at the end of the year, once Students have completed the formal MAI training program, as this is the obvious "Next Step" in their proffessional development. Each instructor is required to build up his file with demonstration and illustration of learning. All activities will be documented in the file under the following sections:
Curriculum Vitae and Certificates/Awards
Hard copies of presentations
Standard Operating Procedures for Activities
Fall Safety and Risk Assessment for all activities
These files are paramount in demonstrating the curriculum covered during this course, as well as, the level at which each student has performed. They will be extremely important for the student when attending interviews as they will give a comprehensive insight into the students training and experience. The file will also be an invaluable source of information that the students will need to draw on from time to time once they enter the work place.
Instructors Log Book
Each Instructor will be required to set up and maintain his/her Personal Log Book. This will have the following sections within it:
Personal details and photo
Courses completed with dates
Certificates achieved with dates
Activity log – a separate section for each discipline
Serious incident log
As with the Instructor files, the log book is a valuable document as it highlights the amount of experience that the student has. Training is not a standalone requirement in this industry and the more evidence of experience that can be shown the better. This evidence props up the training and is a vital tool in progressing within the industry.
General Daily Structure for MAI candidates
The working day will follow a structured program but there may well be variance from time to time when client groups are on site. Evening sessions may be held from time to time if necessary. Weekends are generally managed by the students, but they are encouraged to use this time doing their preparation and logging in hours on activities. The course is based on a workplace readiness model, meaning that students will be involved fully in the running of this and other Centre’s whilst training.
Duration of Course
The course will run for approximately nine months from February to October. There will also be Mid-Term breaks, and these will be governed by the Warriors Quest dates, public holidays and the availability of suitable course tuition sessions.
It is stressed that this program will run from the beginning of February through to the end of October. There will be times when the students are given a break, but these are linked to course and facilitator availability and will be confirmed at a later stage.
