Outdoor Activity Instructor
with X Adventure
UK, Norwich, Norfolk
10th February 2020
£16,000 - £17,125 p.a. pro rata (Dependent on qualifications and experience)
We are a small and bespoke company who are highly adaptable to the aims and objective of our groups. We work with our customers to develop unique programmes that don;t necessarily follow the norm. We don;t make our customers fit our programmes but make our programmes fit our customers; in our eyes every group and customer is unique.
Our ethos focuses on helping, encouraging, supporting and guiding our guests.
Youth and adult personal and team development is at the heart of everything we deliver. We use outdoor activities and programmes to facilitate and focus each persons journey of discovery. We actively empower individuals to improve self confidence, personal relationships with peers, leadership and communication qualities. We encourage people with insular outlooks to openly embrace change. We challenge behaviour and work closely with individuals and teams to help them see from past to future. The outdoors is our tool to help and support individual and team development
This is what sets us apart from others, we go the extra mile and we are not afraid of a difficult journey.
A Typical Day in the Job
No 'one' day is a typical day. However usually we start the day at 09:00, set the kit for the arrival of the groups either from the residential building or from a day visit group. We usually run up to four 1 1/2 hour activity sessions through the day; either water based or land based and conclude the day by sorting out the equipment back into the stores.
You would work with people from many social backgrounds but in particular those who experience complicated life circumstances. Through the provision of centre based, wilderness and activity led personal and team development programmes, you will actively improve the confidence, motivation and core life skills these individuals need to make a positive change in their lives.
This only tells a small part of our days. The day may also include giving feedback and doing reflective exercises for the groups; delivering these in our team briefing rooms. Our days are also spent looking after the centre doing routine maintenance on the grounds and the kit.
The day would most likely be at our development Centre in Norwich; however the day may also take you onto the local rivers for canoeing or much further afield to North wales or Scotland delivering canoeing or walking expeditions.
Who are we looking for?
Applicants must be aged 18 or over, and must hold one or more NGB qualifications in either paddle sports, roped activities, archery, walking or mountaineering.
Experience of delivering team dynamics, DofE, bushcraft, low ropes, raft building and wilderness trails would be highly desirable; as is experience working on intensive developmental programmes with challenging young people.
It would be preferable you have a valid first aid certificate and a full driving license.
An enhanced DBS clearance is required before commencement of any employment.
Interview date - 13th January 2020
