The Co-ordinator of Outdoor Education will deliver the The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Mill Hill School (MHS) and Mill Hill International (MHI) and also work to increase the range of activities available within timetabled Games lessons, run

mid-week and weekend activity sessions and increase the number of Outdoor Education related School trips. In addition, the successful candidate would be responsible for creating further links and consistency in the Outdoor Education programme across all Foundation Schools. A significant part of the role will also include working within the

School’s thriving boarding environment. It is a role that is designed to give the successful applicants an all-encompassing experience of independent school life. The role is likely to suit candidates interested in pursuing a career in education, understanding that the role is fast-paced and time-consuming during School terms yet enormously rewarding for the right candidate.

Qualifications and Skills

• Suitable outdoor qualification to help train pupils and lead expeditions in wild country terrain both within the UK and overseas (such as Mountain Leader (summer) or Hill and Moorland Leader)
• Good organisational and interpersonal skills
• A willingness to undertake qualifications in the DofE Scheme and expedition leadership
• Hold a driving licence and be prepared to gain D1 to drive school minibuses
• Have a range of NGB Outdoor Education qualifications across two or more disciplines, ideally water and land-based (such as BCU level 1 / 2, rock climbing instructor etc)
• Hold a current Outdoor First Aid Certificate
• Have experience planning, delivering and reporting on outdoor education activity session in a range of disciplines
• Be an experienced DofE Award Supervisor /Manager
• Be a qualified and experienced DofE Assessor
• Have experience leading group activity days and longer trips
• Have user knowledge of iSAMS, SOCS, EVOLVE or have the skills to develop knowledge

Experience and Knowledge

• An ability to motivate pupils and encourage them in the completion of the Duke of Edinburgh Award
• Appropriate ICT skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and specialised tracking devices Abilities, Skills and Attributes
• Good organisational and interpersonal skills
• An enthusiasm for and an interest in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme
• An ability to work as part of a team
• Evidence of a commitment to personal development and training
• A willingness to undertake qualifications in the DofE Scheme and expedition leadership
