The job description
Summer Camp Staff - All Areas: a typical day
Camp Counselor
As a Camp Counselor at Summer Camp, you’ll live and breathe camp. You’ll be focused on making sure the campers have the time of their life and making sure everyone is safe. Your daily routine will include helping campers at mealtimes, getting involved in all of the fun activities on offer and taking the campers around their scheduled activities for the day. The best part of being a Camp Counselor is that you get to see every part of camp. While touring around the different activities, you’ll most likely pick up a new skill or two alongside your role.
Activity Specialist
Every camp needs Activity Specialists! If you have a specific skill you would love to teach others, this role is perfect for you. Activity Specialists spend their days teaching campers new skills and helping them develop their specialities. Qualifications are not essential but any certifications you have will be a valuable asset to your application. Activity Specialist roles can vary from sports, media, water sports, arts and crafts and so much more!
Support Staff
Support Staff are the heart of camp and without them, camp just wouldn’t function. As support staff, you can work in a multitude of roles such as helping to prepare meals, office work, laundry or maintenance. Support Staff is a less hands-on role if you don’t feel confident working with children but would still like the Summer Camp experience.
Arts and Crafts Activity Specialist
Are you currently studying for an arts degree? Do you love to get creative? This is the perfect job for you! The Arts and Crafts department is one of the most popular areas at camp. Campers (and counselors) love to get stuck into all things creative. From creating friendship bracelets to ceramics, campers will end their summer with a whole host of handmade projects. Gain experience teaching and nurturing potential artists of the future. Whether you’re skilled in Ceramics, Fashion Design, Textiles, Fine Art or any other creative subjects, there’s a place for you in the Arts and Crafts department this summer.
Performing Arts Activity Specialist
Calling all performers! Are you interested in spending your summer teaching campers everything you know about Performing Arts? Camps in America are looking for singers, dancers, actors/actresses and musicians to share their skills and wisdom this summer. Alongside this, if you have any technical skills our Performing Arts Camps are looking for technicians and stagehands! Make a difference this summer by teaching campers all things drama and showcase their hidden talents they might have not known before!
Sports Activity Specialist
Every camp needs Sport Activity Specialists. One of the first things people often associate with camp is sports! Whether you’re a pro in basketball, soccer (aka football), tennis, horse riding or hockey, Summer Camps up and down America are looking for young people, just like you. Help and develop campers skills and make a difference this summer. Alongside this, you’ll be getting essential work experience abroad to level up your future employability.
Outdoor Activity Specialist
If you love the outdoors and have a sense of adventure, then leading hiking and adventure trips at Summer Camp is the place for you. Camps are looking for Outdoor Specialists to help with climbing adventures, hikes, canoeing, outdoor cooking and so much more! You’ll be responsible for keeping campers safe, but it is also your job to show them all the possibilities with outdoor adventure and how fun it can be. Camps in America are usually set in some of the country’s best woodland and trails, so if breathtaking scenery and clean air is your thing, this might be the perfect job for you.
