Head of Outdoor Education: a typical day
The Head of Outdoor Education (College EVC) will be a dynamic, forward-thinking, and ambitious individual. They will be a strong advocate for the value of outdoor education, building on the culture already created, such that St Dunstan’ becomes renowned for the breadth and diversity of its offering. They will be able to articulate an exciting and ambitious vision for outdoor education, inspiring confidence and enthusiasm across our community and showcasing the myriad advantages of our dynamic and diverse south-east London location.
The successful candidate will have the confidence to deliver of a variety of forms of outdoor education. This may be through supporting other curricular and co-curricular departments, leading an extensive and diverse co-curricular offering, or leading on trips and expeditions throughout the year. As perhaps the most frequent organiser of trips, the successful candidate will also fulfil the role of College EVC. They will be a first-rate communicator with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the efficient operation of an extensive and complex programme. Working with colleagues from across the Junior and Senior, the College EVC is responsible for ensuring that policies are up to date and followed and suitable risk assessment is carried out, whilst maintaining school records, processes, and accountability.
The successful candidate will work closely with the marketing and admissions team to continue to ensure that the vision and quality of experiences that we provide are widely recognised and understood. The successful applicant will have the interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships with our network of local industry partners, and work collaboratively to maintain a broad range of opportunities for our community.

what makes you the ideal candidate
The following experience is essential:
Driving licence that qualifies for minibus driving; Experience administering and organising outdoor education; Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements for outdoor education, with experience applying to the production of risk assessments and NOP’s; Experience leading expeditions in the UK and abroad.
The following experience is desirable:
Relevant qualifications in Outdoor Education across a range of disciplines; Climbing specific accreditation, which may include MTA or BMC qualifications or open to training for the qualifications; Current First Aid Qualification; Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Assessor.
