Our mission is to provide access to the outdoor for all, especially young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity. Every member of staff shares these values and is hardworking, passionate, and talented.

Our activities and residential experiences all have in depth educational value with a clear learning outcome.

We offer staff accommodation in houses just a 5 minute walk away from the main centre. Staff members staying with us will have their own bedroom, and catering is optionally provided for activity staff.

Mount Cooks commitments to quality and safety means we provide in house training on all activities and support our staff to achieve NGB awards.

Outdoor Activity Manager: a typical day

Main duties of the Outdoor Activity Manager will include:

🎯 Ensure we have sufficient trained staff to meet the Centre programme requirements through appropriate rota management

🎯 Deliver activities as required to a wide range of groups, including schools, apprentices/graduates, corporate groups and groups with additional needs

🎯 Working with the senior management team to develop activities and equipment

🎯 Maintain and develop staff induction programme and staff competence framework

🎯 Annually update and create risk assessments for activities on offer

🎯 Line manage and lead all activity staff, keeping standards high and morale up!

Who are we looking for?
what makes you the ideal candidate

We are looking for an experienced outdoor professional to join our team.

Strong regulatory knowledge of the outdoor sector, including AALA, Adventure Mark, PPE requirements and Learning Outside the Classroom

Hold a range of NGB qualifications from the following areas: Rock Climbing, Hillwalking/Mountaineering, Canoeing/Kayaking/Watersports, Archery, Bushcraft, High Ropes, Caving, Orienteering

Experience with good leadership, and the ability to inspire, enthuse and create a fun environment for the staff team whilst instilling a strong culture of safety

Experience of risk management in the outdoor education sector and the ability to dynamically risk assess in a range of situations in the outdoor environment

The postholder will require a level of fitness to be able to safely lead groups in all conditions, and to be able to safety support the maintenance of fixed outdoor activities on site

Prepared to occasionally work flexibly as required to the meet the demands of the role (Our activity staff are only very rarely required to assist with other operational roles - do not expect to be making beds or helping in the kitchen often!)
