PGL is widely recognised as the UK's original and biggest operator of summer camps. In this context our name became known as Parents Get Lost, but we now also operate a programme of family holidays so that parents can come too!
With the help of our staff, we make sure that every year we continue to build upon our success and offer safe, exciting, challenging and fun activities!
The job description
a typical day
There is no such thing as a typical day as a Sailing Instructor at PGL. You will be responsible for delivering group taster sessions in sailing as well as helping to organise and participate in evening entertainments.
You will be responsible for the rigging and de-rigging of the boats you use. The PGL fleet includes Laser Picos and Funboats, Toppers and Topper Tazes, RS Fevas, RS Visions and Hobie 15 catamarans.
One of the best aspects of this job is seeing young people achieve things they thought they never could, and knowing that you had a big part to play in their success. It can be hard work but it’s also great fun.
Once your day at work has finished you will get to experience centre life with all centres having their own staff areas and social scene. You will have the freedom to do as much or as little as you want with your free time. It really is what you make of it!
Who are we looking for?
what makes you the ideal candidate
A willingness to learn, lots of energy and a passion for sailing and the outdoors!
You will need to hold a minimum of your Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Instructor award or RYA Seamanship award.
If you're not yet qualified as an RYA Dinghy Instructor, don't worry: if you hold your RYA Seamanship Award, you can join our intensive month-long pre-season training course held at our Mimosa watersports centre during April. During this course, you will work towards the next level of your RYA qualification - be it AI, DI or even SI. And the best part - the course is free of charge on the provision that you complete your contract of employment with us. This could save you over £2,000 if you're looking to self-fund your qualifications externally!
What can we offer you?
why choose us for your next adventure job
We offer a competitive wage which will vary depending on your job related qualifications, job location and contract length, free uniform and a fantastic residential package.
You'll also receive transport to your centre from a UK departure point, training and qualification opportunities and have the time of your life!
