Categories : Activity Instructor
Location : UK, Scotland, Wales, Shropshire and Norfolk
Start Date : Ongoing
The Salary : £14,000 - £18,500
Lots of activity centres are just about having fun. While this is an important part of learning, we like to make the most of the educational and personal benefits of outdoor pursuits by maximising the experience for every child who stays with us.
We invest our profits back into the training of our instructors, and into the equipment and facilities at each of our six centres.
A Typical Day in the Job
It is very difficult to describe a typical day, because the work is so varied.
Usually you will start with the morning meeting to discuss which school are at the centre that day and what activities will be taking place. Then follows a trip to stores to collect and check the safety equipment required for each activity. The first session will begin at 9am and the last one ends at about 8.30pm, with a lot of instructing inbetween!
You will be teaching a range of exhilarating activities including paddle sports, sailing, windsurfing, raft build, climbing, abseil, fencing, rifle shooting, high ropes, zip wire, orienteering, archery, hill walk, camping, survival, underground maze, obstacle courses, blind trail, BMX and more!
Who are we looking for?
Previous experience is not a requirement. If you do already have NGB awards or relevant experience, do tell us about it on the application form on the next page, however, most important is your energy, enthusiasm and whether you have a passion for working with children.
Please remember that you will be working outdoors all year and in all weathers. We do give you fantastic kit that will keep you warm, and mostly dry(!) but if you don't like the idea of getting wet and muddy, you are probably better looking for a 9 to 5 desk job.
What we can offer you
In return for your enthusiasm, hard work and commitment, we can offer you:
National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications from EF (fencing), GNAS (archery), BCU UKCC Level 1 coach, NSRA (rifles), RYA DI (Dinghy Instructor), RYA L3 safety boat
A comprehensive training and development programme - we don't only develop the abilities of children, we develop the skills and abilities of our Instructors as well
An excellent salary package
A standard 11-month seasonal contract (a 2-year contract is also optional by agreement)
Extremely rewarding work
Career development prospects - we develop good Instructors into Senior Instructors, Chief Instructors and Heads of Centre
A fairly priced 'live in' option with good accommodation and food
Good working conditions in a professional yet friendly team environment
The next selection day for all applicants is Tuesday 26th February 2019. It will be held at Culmington Manor, Shropshire.
