CCF School Staff Instructor (SSI): a typical day

Main duties and responsibilities:

TRAINING

Support the management, planning, organisation and delivery of the Contingent activities and single-service section training over the course of the annual training cycle, including:

- Weekly Friday Parade afternoon activity programme.

- Weekend exercises and CCF Central Summer camps, term-time Field Days and occasional training days and parades.

- Booking training areas, accommodation, ammunition, rations and transport.

- Co-ordinate Inspection Day Parade and activity programme.

- Update Unit Standard Operating Procedures and training documentation, as required.

- Maintain a high standard of turnout and discipline, and uphold standards within the Contingent.

SAFETY

Ensure that CCF activities follow the Safe System of Training, in accordance with Defence Instructions and Notices (DIN), and MoD Health and Safety policies. Implement all mandatory Health and Safety regulations.

BUILDINGS

To liaise with the school's Maintenance Department and Head Porter, RFCA, and MoD contractors over the upkeep and inspection of the CCF Block & Stores, Armoury and Indoor Range.

INSPECTIONS

Liaise with the MoD over mandatory external inspections including arranging, preparing for, hosting and enacting the recommendations of these inspections:

- Equipment Care Inspections (ECI)

- Mandatory Equipment Inspection (MEI)

- Range Inspection

Carry out Unit Mandatory Equipment Inspections (UMEI).

ADMINISTRATION

- Maintain accurate cadet and staff personnel records on Westminster and BADER.

- Record Contingent weekly Parade and CCF activity attendance (Field Day, Camps and additional training days).

- Maintain all data required for the production of the Annual Assurance Inspection Report (AAIR).

- Process the Contingent Accounts, billing, and any CFAV pay claims.

- Maintain the CCF Public Funds Account and submit annually for audit.

- Update the CCF SharePoint site with training and event documentation as required.

- Manage one-off events and activities on iSAMS, SOCS and EVOLVE, e.g. parachuting and white water rafting.

EQUIPMENT AND STORES

- Hold responsibility for ordering, issuing, care, maintenance and storage of all MoD and CCF equipment, including clothing, ammunition, rations and other stores.

- Control the issue, receipt, maintenance, security and serviceability of arms, ammunition and explosives held in the Armoury.

- Conduct all mandatory weapons, equipment, clothing and other Stores checks.

OTHER DUTIES

- Fulfil the role of Unit Security Officer (USO) and conduct an Establishment Security Self-Assessment (ESSA) Annually.

- Attend CCF Contingent meetings and conferences by CCF LONDIST, RN and RAF HQs as required.

- Carry out other reasonable duties within the responsibilities of the post as required by the Contingent Commander, Bursar or Head Master.

Flexibility will need to be applied according to the demands of the post. Hours will remain flexible to accommodate the timings of activities relating to CCF and Outdoor Education activities.

When weekend activities are undertaken, additional hours will be remunerated with time off in lieu or overtime payments.

Qualifications - Essential
Full, valid UK driving licence with the ability to drive minibuses (category D1) or willingness to undertake training to fulfil the requirement.
Qualifications - Desirable
Qualified Exercise Conducting Officer
Skill at Arms and Range Qualifications
KGVI Course (or equivalent) qualification in planning and running exercises
AT Qualifications (kayaking, climbing, mountain leader, etc.).

Experience - Essential
Hold or have held SNCO rank of Sgt or higher in the Armed Forces (Regulars or Reserves). Or be a commissioned CFAV in the CCF, or Community Cadet Forces.
Previous experience working with young people.
A proven record of administration.
Experience - Desirable
Experience of working in a school environment.

Skills - Essential
Be IT literate ' Word, Outlook, Excel, any Management Information System.
Have good administration skills ' ability to manage accounts, make transport, equipment bookings.
Good oral and written communication skills
Skills - Desirable
Be familiar with Westminster, BADER, iSAMS, SOCS, EVOLVE information management systems.

Knowledge - Essential
Have an awareness of the Safe System of Training.
Knowledge of the CCF aims and ethos.

Knowledge - Desirable
Be familiar with a single-service CCF cadet syllabus.
Be knowledgeable about the UK Armed Forces and Careers within the Services.
